The chief if police is Dan Steere. The officers in this department are outstanding. Being a criminal defense law firm, our lawyers hear a lot of people complaining about how bad they are treated by police. We don’t hear those types of complaints about this police department.

A Tough City Grandville Attorney

As if facing a tough judge wasn’t enough of a problem for those facing criminal charges, the city attorney is also one of the toughest prosecutors in the area. Kent County prosecutors that work in Grandville are fair, open minded and more flexable to deal with. The City Attorney used to be an Ottawa County prosecutor. In Ottawa County, the prosecutor has numerous policy cases. A policy case means that if the prosecutor believes a person is above a certain limit on their blood alcohol content (BAC) they will not be open to lowering the charge. It can also mean they are less likely to offer diversion programs. The city attorney has brought this thought process with him to this district court. Do not face him without an exceptional attorney like Shawn Haff by your side!  Grandville Criminal Defense Attorney Shawn Haff knows the city attorney. Grandville Case Results

 January 16th, 2022

I was working diligently on my clients case, trying to get them a diversion program call the Holmes Youthful Trainee program (HYTA). The city attorney was being his usual tough self. However, I was able to get him to agree to consent to my 23 year old clients to getting HYTA if I could persuade the judge. Versluis was not buying my argument at first. He told me to write a brief explaining why my clients should be allowed to be sentenced under the diversion program. Given the fact that my client would have no criminal record if they completed HYTA successful, I went to work on writing the legal memorandum of law. The judge was impressed with my passionately argued and legally relevant material I presented him. He sentenced my clients under the HYTA diversion program.

April 18th, 2022

My client was facing an OWI second offense and a felony charge.  I was able to get the OWI second offense dropped to a lesser charge and I was also able to get the felony charge dropped!

September 7th, 2020

We had an assault and battery case that went to trial. The facts were tough and didn’t look good for us. However, we fought hard and enjoyed the fruits of our nice win when the jury came back with a not guilty verdict.

Trials are not always the best way to settle a case. Many times, a plea deal can be a nice win as well. In some cases, the facts are not good for a defendant. In these cases, we will work hard to get you the best results possible. We will take a proactive approach to your case. Once you retain us, we will use every little trick we know to get you the best results possible.

November 2nd, 2018

At the 59th district court in Grandville, Michigan, we were able to get misdemeanor charges dropped for our client!

This case is a classic example of why a person should hire an attorney when they are charged with any misdemeanor offense. The prosecutor, in this case, tried to bully the defendant into taking a plea deal. Sadly, far too many prosecutor’s will try to bully someone into taking a plea deal that is not in the defendant’s best interest. The prosecutor was certainly not going to have the misdemeanor charges dropped if they were going against a defendant without an aggressive attorney by his side.

Once the prosecutor saw that the defendant had retained our aggressive services, the prosecutor knew they could not win this case. It was a great feeling for us having the misdemeanor charges dropped!

Shawn is a  Grandville Criminal Defense Attorney with a proven track record of outstanding results!
