What To Do if there is a Warrant out for my arrest in Michigan?

Under Michigan Law, Arrest Warrants never expire. There have been times where people return to the state of Michigan 20 years later and find out the warrant is still active and the police officer who pulled the person over for speeding now has to take that person to jail. Warrants are issued by courts when a judge or magistrait finds probable cause that a crime has been committed and that the state has probable cause to show who engaged in criminal activity.  Arrest warrants can also be found during public searches and these searches pull up warrants from many years back. We have heard of people finding warrants from over 30 years ago. If you are the person named in the warrant, all you can do is clear the warrant by turning yourself in.

Attorney  Shawn Haff encourages his clients to also be proactive when they have a valid warrant out for their arrest. Shawn works with local law enforcement agents and West Michigan courts to allow his clients to turn themselves in. This way, there is no violent confrontation with police of embarrasing arrests at home or work.  Shawn will make sure your rights are protected.

After his clients have turned themselves in, Shawn gets to work for his clients. Shawn always tells his clients to exercise their right to remain silent. Shawn will then demand to see the probable cause that caused the warrant for your arrest to be issued.  Shawn will then attend your arraignment and ask that you be released on a low bond.  Michigan law demands that most people who arearrested person are entitled to bond.

The amount of the bond is determined by how severe the crime is, the criminal history of the defendant, ties to the community, will the defendant show up to future court appearances and does the defendant pose a risk to society. In some cases, the court will put a GPS tether on the defendant. In other cases, a defendant my be placed on house arrest.  Having a skillful Grand Rapids, Michigan Criminal Defense Lawyer like Shawn Haff on your side will give you the confidence to know that you are getting the lowest bond amount possible.
